Recreational Guide Training

This Recreational Guide Training is over a three weekends and is designed for experienced and aspiring outdoor professional. Each weekend we will have a different experience: Front Country, Backpacking and Canoe Trip. The first weekend we will primarily stay on Unity College Campus focusing on some essential skills. During the course, participants will complete an ACA Introduction to Canoeing Level I and Leave No Trace Trainer Courses. During this course, will work to develop the essential skills required for pursuing the Maine Recreational Guides License.
We will cover the following topics:
- Introduction to history of Maine Recreational Guide
- Rules and regulations
- Map and Compass
- Risk Management
- Group Safety
- Search and Rescue
- First Aid and Scenarios
- Lost hiker and Catastrophic Events
- Maine boating and snowmobile regulations
- Leave No Trace (Leave No Trace Trainer)
- Plants, animals and birds
- Introduction to Canoeing (ACA Level I)
Canoes, camping gear, food, and transportation will be supplied by Unity College. There is an additional fee when applying to test at the Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife.
DATES (Overnight Camping Trips Saturday at 8am – Sunday at 5pm)
Participants must have a current First Aid and CPR certification.
