Description
In this two day intensive course, we will teach participants to recognize river hazards, understand river hydrology, perform self and tandem rescues skills, rescue paddlers in distress, recovering loose boats and equipment, and provide strategies for managing river incidents. Scenarios will provide an opportunity for participants to practice their skills both individually and within a team/group context.
Program topics include:
- On water communication
- Hydrology
- Dynamics of moving water
- Hazard identification
- Strainer management
- Protective equipment/ Rescue gear and preparation
- Throw Rope Use
- Wading
- Whitewater swimming
- Boat retrieval
- Boat-based techniques
- Survival techniques and rigging systems
- Mechanical advantage systems
Participants in training program should be prepared for multiple in-water scenarios.
Please note: Lunch is not included in this course offering. Participants should pack all necessary food items.
Prerequisites
Must have completed ACA Level II or have comparable experience. Participants without prior training that wish to enroll must complete a skills assessment with either OAC Director or Assistant Director.

Unity College: $120 (includes all fees, wet suits, and transportation)
